Phone lines

Every number you own is a line. This page is where you see them all, name them, pick the one Zinley calls out from, and pause the ones you're not using.

Your lines at a glance

Open Configure → Your Zinley → Profile and look under Phone. Each line shows its number, its nickname, its status, and what it costs per month. There's also a billing view that totals what all your lines add up to — the same numbers appear on Billing & Usage.

The lines list: two numbers with nicknames, a primary badge on one, and pause and release controls.
Your lines — set the primary, nickname each one, pause or release.

A line is in one of these states:

  • Active — routing calls normally.
  • Paused — you turned it off; it still bills, and keeps everything.
  • Pending release — you cancelled it; it works until the end of the paid period.
  • Past due — a payment failed. See Cancel or reclaim.

Nicknames

Give each line a name so you can tell them apart at a glance — Work, Personal, Berlin, whatever fits. Click the nickname field on the line and type (up to 40 characters). Nicknames are for you; callers never see them.

Your primary line

One line is the primary. It's the number Zinley calls out from — so when you ask it to phone a restaurant, that's the caller ID the restaurant sees.

  • Set it from the line's menu (Set as primary).
  • Only an active line can be primary. A paused or pending-release line can't be chosen.
  • If the primary line goes away — you release it, or a payment lapses — Zinley falls back to another active line so outbound calls keep working.

All your lines still receive calls regardless of which one is primary.

Pause and resume

Pausing is the "put this line on ice" switch. Use it when a line is for a project that's over, or a season you're not in right now.

When a line is paused:

  • Calls stop routing to it. Nothing rings, nothing gets answered.
  • Billing continues. Pausing is not cancelling — you're holding the number. If you want the charge to stop, release it instead.
  • Everything is kept — the line's settings, its nickname, and the call history and caller memory attached to it. Resume and it picks up exactly where it left off.

Click Resume to bring it back.

How many lines you can run

Your plan caps how many lines can be active at once:

Plan Active lines
Free 1
Plus 2
Pro 5
Max 10

Two things worth knowing about the cap:

  • You can still buy past it. The purchase goes through, but the new line arrives paused rather than active. It's yours and it's billing — it just isn't routing calls yet.
  • Resuming past the cap fails. If you're at your limit and try to resume a paused line, Zinley refuses and points you at an upgrade. Pause a different line first, or move up a plan.

Paused lines don't count against the cap — only active ones do. That's what makes "pause one, resume another" a workable way to stay inside your plan.
