Personalize your News
Choose what you want News to consider, then correct it as you read. Topic choices, feedback, language, location, and connected sources help shape later editions.
Create your first edition
- Open Action Center → News → Set up my news.
- Under Your topics, review interests suggested from what you have told Zinley. Keep the ones that fit and deselect the ones that do not.
- Under More to explore, pick useful topics. Choose Add to enter a topic in your own words, such as “rail travel in Japan.” The topic editor shows its limit when full.
- Under Where you are, choose Use my location, Type a city, or Skip. Confirm the city shown before continuing.
- Under Language, choose Write my news in.
- Choose Make my edition. Check that the setup closes and the edition begins preparing.
If location access fails, type your city instead. A city is enough for local news and weather; do not put a home address into a topic field. You can start without a city and add it later.
Change topics or language later
Open Tune your news from the News header or end of the edition. The panel is titled News settings. Change the relevant section and wait for Saved; if a save fails, retry before closing the panel.
Write my news in controls the language of generated News. It does not change the app's buttons or translate every external source page. A separately selected Health language stays independent; without a Health-specific choice, Health follows News.
Your current edition may still contain stories written before a preference changed. Look for the new choice in a later update rather than assuming an older story must be rewritten immediately.
Choose timing and sources
| Setting | How to use it |
|---|---|
| Your topics / More to explore | Add, remove, or correct interests |
| Where you are | Change the city or use Remove to clear it |
| Temperature | Choose Celsius or Fahrenheit for displayed weather |
| News | Turn daily News on or off; confirm Turn off if requested |
| When → Morning edition at | Choose the offered morning time; on desktop, leave the time field or press Enter to save |
| Use quiet hours | Use the end of your quiet hours instead of a separately chosen morning time |
| Sources | Enable or disable available context sources such as weather, local news, trips, calendar, or things you watch |
| What Zinley learned | Review learned notes and Never show exclusions; reset them when you deliberately want to start over |
Current desktop and mobile builds offer one edition size and a News on/off switch. Older builds may still show Light and Full. Your plan controls update availability; actual story counts depend on useful news. Check the schedule line for the next update.
The Sources switches control what the edition may use. They do not connect a disconnected email or calendar account, and they do not grant access to a service. Manage connections through Apps & services.
Teach News with feedback
| Feedback | Meaning |
|---|---|
| More like this | Ask for more stories like this in later updates |
| Less like this | Ask for fewer stories like this |
| Comment | Explain what was useful, missing, wrong, or too long |
| Never show this topic | Block the topic; the confirmation may also identify a source that will be blocked |
| Save | Keep this particular story for later reading |
Read the Never show confirmation carefully. It can hide the current story as well as affect future selections. If the confirmation offers Undo, use it immediately to reverse that change. For a longer-standing block, inspect What Zinley learned and its reset option.
A useful comment is specific: “Keep transport updates for my city, but skip celebrity stories.” A thumbs-down without context gives the agent less information about what to change.
Correct what Zinley thinks you like
Open How Zinley reads you when it appears in News. Review You care about, Less of, Trying next, and any listed corrections. Use Not me on an incorrect item, then either explain what is closer to the truth or choose Just remove.
Use Tell Zinley something to give a direct correction. The acknowledgment says it will be used from the next update. The portrait develops as you read, so a new account may show that Zinley is still getting to know you.
Turn News off or reset learning
To stop editions, open Tune your news and turn News off. Confirm Turn off when asked. Return to News and use Turn on daily news, or the available setup action, to enable it again.
To reset recommendation learning, open What Zinley learned → Reset, read the confirmation, and confirm only if you want to clear those learned notes and exclusions. Resetting learning and turning News off serve different purposes; neither is the same as revoking a public story link. Use Stop sharing for a shared link.
