Making & receiving calls
Once your number is live, Zinley works the phone in both directions — it places calls you ask for, and it answers the ones that come in. Afterwards you get a written account of what happened.
Ask Zinley to make a call
Outbound calls start in conversation. Just say what you want, in chat or by voice:
"Call the restaurant on Rue Cler and book a table for 4 at 8pm Friday."
"Call mom and ask what time she's arriving this weekend."
"Call the clinic and find out if my prescription is ready — don't reschedule anything."
Zinley dials from your primary line (see Phone lines), so that's the caller ID on the other end. It can call:
- Businesses — restaurants, clinics, service desks, landlords.
- People you know — family, colleagues, anyone in People.
- You — when you've set an escalation number and something needs you.
It calls for you or on your behalf, and it says which. When the call ends, Zinley reports back with what it got — the booking, the answer, the thing they wouldn't confirm.
If your decision autonomy is set to "confirm," anything the call implies Zinley should do next comes back as a proposal for you to approve, rather than happening automatically. See Teach Zinley to answer.
When someone calls you
Zinley picks up using the greeting, voice, and rules you set. On a typical unknown call it will:
- Open with your greeting — casual, professional, or your exact words.
- Screen the caller the way you told it to — "ask who's calling and why" — and decide how much to engage.
- Take a message, at the level of detail you chose (basic or thorough).
- Transfer the call, but only if transfers are on and the destination is on your allowed list.
- Record the call so there's a transcript afterwards.
- Write a post-call summary — what was said, what was agreed, what's outstanding.
Beyond that, it can auto-block a caller it judges to be a scam, and escalate a genuinely urgent call to you — by ringing your escalation number, or by emailing your notification address.
Trusted callers get more. A number on your trusted list reaches your full agent — calendar, contacts, messages — instead of the limited one. See Trusted & blocked callers.
How long a call can run
Calls draw on your main plan's credits; there's no separate per-minute phone bill. What your plan does set is the ceiling on a single call:
| Plan | Max length per call |
|---|---|
| Free | 15 minutes |
| Plus | 15 minutes |
| Pro | 60 minutes |
| Max | No limit |
Reviewing your calls
Every call Zinley handles — inbound and outbound — gets an entry you can open later. Each one carries the transcript, the summary, and a picture of who you were talking to:
- Who they are — their name, plus any notes you've written about them.
- How often they call — the running count, and whether they're trusted.
- Your relationship — a short summary built from every channel, not just this call.
- Last call note — what happened the previous time.
- Open threads — things still unresolved between you.
- Preferred language — once Zinley is confident which one they speak.
Ask for it in plain language too:
"What did the contractor say when he called on Tuesday?"
"Show me every call from an unknown number this week."
How far back you can look
How much call history you can see depends on your plan:
| Plan | Calls visible |
|---|---|
| Free | Last 1 day |
| Plus | Last 1 week |
| Pro | Last 1 month |
| Max | Last 3 months |
This is a visibility window, not a deletion schedule — and what Zinley learned from a call (the person's profile, open threads, facts about them) stays in People and Topics regardless of the window.
"Live voice" is something else
In the app you'll also find live voice — a real-time spoken conversation with Zinley itself. That's you talking to your agent, hands-free.
Live voice is not a way to listen in on phone calls. It doesn't join, monitor, or bridge into a call with someone else. See Voice.
