Read, act on, and share a story
Open a News story to inspect the original reporting, ask a question, watch an attached video, or share the selected public view. A story suggestion becomes work only after you request it and check the resulting action.
Ask about the story
Open Action Center → News, then choose a story. Use the question field labeled Ask Zinley about this, or choose a suggested question. The request carries the story's context into the conversation.
You can ask for a comparison, a source check, an explanation, or a next step. For example: “Does this apply to my trip next month? Check the official rules before making a recommendation.” Review the answer and its sources before acting on a time-sensitive claim.
Questions you might have contains prepared questions. Open one to read its answer, then use Ask Zinley more for a follow-up. These questions are not the same as asking Zinley to take an external action.
Use What to do
Read the suggestion under What to do. If there is an action button, its label tells you what request it sends. Choosing it may open a conversation to plan or carry out the work; it is not evidence that a booking, reminder, purchase, or message is already complete.
Check the conversation and any approval request, then look for the result or receipt. A recurring suggestion should be confirmed by a saved routine or schedule before you rely on it. See Authority & approvals for actions that need your permission.
Watch a video
A story with available video shows a play control and may offer a Videos selection. Choose the clip you want, then Play video. Some stories have more than one clip, such as highlights and an interview; some have none.
If playback stays loading or says Can't play this here, try Try again once. Use Watch on… to open the provider when embedded playback is unavailable. Provider restrictions, sign-in requirements, removed videos, and network conditions can affect playback. A thumbnail alone does not prove a video will play inside every app build.
On mobile, use the story navigation outside the video when you want to move to another story. Gestures over the player can belong to the video controls instead of the News reader.
Save or give feedback
At Your feedback, choose Save to keep a story, More like this or Less like this to influence later updates, or Comment to explain a correction. Use Saved in News to return to saved stories.
For a topic you want excluded, use Never show this topic and read the confirmation. It is stronger than Less like this. Personalize your News explains how learned preferences and resets work.
Share a public view
- Open the story and choose Share in the header or feedback area.
- Wait for Share this story to load the card preview. A private story or recap cannot create a public share.
- Review the title, text, identity, and image. Use Preview page to inspect the full public view, including any notice about omitted lines.
- Leave Include the personal parts off unless you want eligible personal context included.
- Review Show my first name when it appears. Its explanation tells you whether the public page names you; it may be absent if the service has no usable name.
- Choose Copy link, Copy image, Save image, or an available Share… / Share to destination.
- Check the success message. A destination's share screen prepares the share; complete or cancel it there.
Opening the share panel can create the public link so the preview can load. Current desktop and mobile builds wait for an explicit copy or share action; opening the panel does not copy the link or send it to another person.
Anyone with the link can see the shared view and can forward it. The public view is a filtered snapshot of the story; it does not grant access to your account, your conversation, or your private calendar. Private lines may be omitted, and personal reports or recaps can be refused entirely. Always review the result rather than relying on the filter as a reason to publish sensitive content.
The personal and non-personal versions can have different links. Turning Include the personal parts off does not revoke a personal link you already shared. A link with your personal lines is still live warns about that earlier link. Use Stop sharing to turn off the story’s existing shared links.
Read a private Look back
A Weekly look back, Monthly look back, or Your year tile can appear in desktop and mobile News when the account receives one. Open it to check the period, highlights, completed work, open items, and source links. Use Show all for a longer section, Ask Zinley about this for an open item, or Not right? Tell Zinley to correct a learned detail.
A Look back can contain personal health, money, and relationship context. It is private and has no public News share. Current News settings do not offer separate weekly, monthly, or yearly Look back switches. Use the visible feedback controls to correct its contents.
Stop sharing
Reopen the story's Share panel and choose Stop sharing. Wait for the confirmation that the link no longer works. Sharing the story again later creates a new link after revocation; an old revoked link does not become valid again.
Stopping a link cannot recall downloaded cards, screenshots, copied text, or previews cached by another app. Public pages and previews can take a little time to reflect a revocation. Removing a story from Saved or turning News off does not substitute for Stop sharing.
Fix common reading and sharing problems
| Problem | Next step |
|---|---|
| Couldn't finish your edition | Choose Try again and wait for the preparing state |
| A setting does not stick | Check connectivity, reopen News settings, and confirm Saved |
| A source page fails to open | Check your connection and the publisher's site; the article may have moved or require access |
| The image preview fails but a link is available | Open the link to inspect the public view before forwarding it |
| A story is marked private | Keep it private; use the original public source link if that is what you intended to share |
| Copying an image is unavailable | Use Save image or the system share option offered by the device |
| Feedback fails | Retry after the error; do not assume the preference changed |
For a persistent issue, report a bug with the app version, device, story title, time, failed control, and exact error. Avoid including a personal shared link or private story text in a public report.
