Desktop appearance, keyboard, and permissions
Make Zinley comfortable to read and give the desktop app only the system access needed for your task. These controls belong to the computer you are using; they do not replace your account's authority settings.
Change appearance and language
- Open Settings → Appearance & language.
- Choose Wallpaper to change the Home background.
- Under Color theme, choose Light, Dark, or System. System follows this computer's appearance.
- Open Interface font or Text size and choose a comfortable option. The text-size picker offers Small, Normal, Large, Extra Large, and Maximum.
- Open App language to change the interface. Return to a familiar page and check its labels.
Changing the interface language does not require News, Health, and spoken conversations to use the same language. See Languages & learning for those separate choices. On mobile, use the phone settings guide.
Use the keyboard in Chat
Use the send button or Enter to send a ready message, and Shift+Enter to insert a new line. Check the attachment and message before sending. When you are composing with an input method, finish selecting the character before sending.
For voice input, keep the desktop app focused and use the displayed Hold Alt to speak control, or the microphone control offered by your build. Allow microphone access, speak, release, and inspect the result. Dictation and a live voice conversation have different controls; follow the Voice guide before relying on either.
Keyboard instructions from older releases may no longer apply. Use the shortcuts shown by the current control. If another app or the operating system handles the same key, return focus to Zinley and use the visible button instead.
Review macOS permissions
On Mac, open Settings → Privacy & safety → Permissions. Review the status for the capability you are trying to use.
| Permission | Why a task may need it |
|---|---|
| Microphone | Voice input or a live voice session |
| Screen Recording | Screenshots and supported screen-aware work |
| Accessibility | Supported mouse, keyboard, or text-selection actions |
| Per-app Automation prompts | Controlling the particular app named in the macOS prompt |
Use the offered system-settings link when a permission is missing. In macOS System Settings, review the application and permission before allowing it. Follow any restart instruction from the operating system, reopen Zinley, and try the smallest relevant action again.
Permission in macOS and authorization inside Zinley are separate. Enabling Screen Recording does not authorize a message or purchase. The access switch in Settings → Devices separately controls work started from another device.
Windows and Linux
The macOS Permissions page is platform-specific. On other systems, follow the operating-system or desktop-session prompt for the requested microphone, screenshot, or control capability. Capabilities can vary by desktop environment and app build. A control that is unavailable should not be treated as permission to bypass a system restriction.
If text Chat works but screen or voice work fails, capture the exact failed capability, app version, operating system, and error. Retry once after correcting access rather than repeatedly issuing a task with external effects.
Recover a difficult-to-read screen
Return to Appearance & language, choose a smaller or larger Text size, and use System or a higher-contrast theme that suits your display. If labels are in an unfamiliar language, use App language; the language list shows native language names.
For a permission that still appears denied after you enabled it, reopen the system settings and confirm the permission belongs to the installation you are running. Include that distinction in a bug report, without attaching private screen contents.
