Sync a folder between desktop computers
Drive keeps one account-owned folder in sync between your desktop computers. It is separate from asking Zinley to work on a computer, and it does not share every local folder automatically.
Turn on folder sync
- On the first computer, open Settings → Devices and find Drive below the computer list.
- Wait for Drive to connect to your signed-in account. If it asks, choose Retry.
- Turn on Sync a folder on this computer.
- Check the displayed Folder path and choose Open.
- Add a small, non-sensitive test file to that folder. Choose Sync now and wait for the result.
- Sign in to the same account on the other computer, enable its folder sync, and check that the test file arrives in its displayed folder.
A new account starts with folder sync off. Use the folder path shown for the current account; an old folder from an earlier installation is not automatically the active sync folder. Mobile file attachments and phone tools do not make the phone a desktop sync folder.
Confirm a transfer
| Status | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Connecting Drive… | The app is establishing the account's connection |
| Not synced yet | There is no completed sync time to rely on |
| Syncing… | A transfer is still running |
| Last synced | The most recent completed sync time |
| Uploaded / downloaded counts | What the last reported transfer moved |
| Files that could not sync | Specific files need attention; other successful transfers do not prove these files arrived |
Check the file itself on the receiving computer before deleting an original or depending on it for a task. A sync timestamp is useful context, not a substitute for checking the particular file.
Resolve conflicting edits
If a file changes on two computers, Drive preserves both copies and names the conflict copy with the computer and date. Open both versions, decide which content to keep, and combine changes deliberately. Do not delete a conflict copy before checking it.
Sync can propagate changes and deletions within the synced folder. Keep a separate backup for information you cannot afford to lose. Turning sync off is not the same as restoring an earlier file version.
Pause or switch accounts
Turn Sync a folder on this computer off to stop this computer's folder sync. This does not turn off the computer's remote-work access switch. You can manage the two independently.
Each signed-in account uses its own folder. After changing accounts, wait for Drive to show the new account's connection and folder before placing files there. If sign-out or reconnection reports a failure, resolve that error instead of assuming the old transfers have ended.
Fix a failed sync
If Folder sync is unavailable in this app version appears, update to a build that provides it. For a connection error, check your network, confirm the account, and choose Retry. For a file error, read the displayed path and reason, correct the issue, then use Sync now.
If the problem remains, report it with the app versions on both computers, the error, last-sync time, and a redacted filename. Do not include a private file just to demonstrate that a transfer failed.
